Why is it that the word 'Packy' or 'Packies' is considered racist? Yes it is true that these 2 words can be used in racial remarks and they do hold negative associations but doesnt the word Brit not hold negative associations? When some foreigners hear the word Brit, this word may conjure up images of football hooligans or heavydrinkers but nobody considers its use racist. Everyone can use the words Yank, Jews, Jerrys (slang for Germans) Jocks, Poles, Japs and Iraqis, for example, and its reasonably acceptable (afterall, that is what they are!) but as soon as one says 'Packies' or 'Packy' then theres always someone who has to make a big song and dance about it and critisize you for being racist or at least say;'Oh you cant say that; you cant say that!!' but thats exactly what they are! Some people mistaken Indians for Packies and so some Indians dont want people to refer them as Packies, but arent some Asians Russian or Japanese not just Packies or Indian. i used to live in dubai and there are huge groups of workers everywhere (they are basically slaves) these workers were usually either pakistanies or indian

My dad doesn't think so though, and I get very embarrassed when he says Paki, as in when the cricket is on, he says "Oh how are the Pakis doing?" It makes me cringe.. Maybe it is a generational thing.



The term for someone from Pakistan is Pakistani.
