this is a 50-50 situation! theres a 50-50 chance for Gridiron Footy that it may become an olympic sport. and once again Karate, Squash and Rubgy (7s n union) have been axed again in the bidding contests for London 2012!
If Chicago wins 2016 bid, then i say tackle football is in that olympics HANDS DOWN since the host city can pick a sport any sport to fill in the gaps!
"Furthermore the IOC did not replaced those two sports by a new one. Golf, Rugby, Inline Skating, Squash and Karate all missed the majority needed to become part of the Olympic Program.
Which impact does those decisions have on the aim of American Football to become an Olympic Sport?
First of all thoses news are good news for IFAF.
The IFAF governs 52 full member associations, Tommy Wiking stated
.
"I don't want to sound cocky, but in the next 10 years, I think we'll have football being played in over 100 countries. We hear from one or two countries who want help getting started every month. I just heard from Sierra Leone. India has started to play."
And in the long run, Jacques Rogge doesnt exclude the participation of Tackle Football.
TWO COUNTRIES EVERY MONTH INTERESTED IN OUR SPORT!!! DO THE MATH!! we'll have an estimated 73-75 minimum by the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2010-2011. thats means olympic criteria has been reached. though currently the sport of gridiron is practised in 5 continents and 52 nations!!!

DONT LIKE THE QUESTION? DONT ANSWER IT!!
btw.. table tennis and synchro diving are one nation dominant sports!!(YES THATS CHINA) why are they in the olympics, keep synchro and ping pong if Gridiron is in!!!! NO gridiron? axe them!!!!
also.. proceed to part 2 of my question as well.....
Is it possible for gridiron to be an olympic sport?
I think you've more or less answered your own question. If the host city can select a sport, then I'd say it's very likely that Chicago will select Gridiron. I would welcome this (rare in my country, as I am English), as it would be a great opportunity to showcase this great game to the whole World. Is it possible for gridiron to be an olympic sport?
I'd say not, because it's not popular enough in enough countries to be included.
It doesn't meet the Olympic criteria.
It may be played around the world but it's not a dominant sport across the world. Is it possible for gridiron to be an olympic sport?
No, it might get in if Chicago hosts the games but if so it will be one time only. Its not just a matter of domination, yes China have a very strong record in synchro diving and table tennis but those sports are played in many countries at a high level. China may dominate but they don't win everything all the time. Gridiron is not played at a meaningful level outside the USA %26amp; maybe Canada, who would compete in a Olympic gridiron competition? Countries are not going to setup gridiron leagues just so they can enter a team in the Olympics.
Try and understand the difference, China may dominate certain sports just as the USA dominates Basketball but Gridiron is NOT played anywhere else above the level of a few expat Americans running around a local park. To be in the Olympics a sport has to have a degree of worldwide popularity and Gridiron is not popular outside the USA.
Claims are always being made by administrators of fringe sports about how they are breaking into new markets and have worldwide interest. The evidence isn't there, you quote US websites only. When you can quote the news sites of the countries you claim Gridiron is gaining popularity it you might have a case.
