there are way too many to count because there are so many different types of girls basketball teams:

-there are thousands of 'little leagues'

-tens of thousands of middle school leagues

-hundreds of thousands high school teams

-13 professional teams (www.wnba.com)

girls basketball is an extremely aggressive sport and seems to be gaining popularity in the high schools

No one's every counted (that would take forever) so there's no precise statistic I can give you. However, I think there's around 100,000 high schools in the U.S. and most of them have a girl's team so I'd say around 70, 000. Don't quote me on that though.
