So is this feasible in scotland??

Scots clubs could face salary cap under SFA plans, confirms Gordon Smith

SFA bosses are considering a salary cap which would curb Scottish clubs from spending more than 65 per cent of their income on wages.

Chief executive Gordon Smith has confirmed that the association are discussing a model which would tackle the problem of our clubs spending beyond their means.

It follows similar reforms in Ireland and comes after UEFA president Michel Platini unveiled his Financial Fair Play crusade aimed at improving the long-term stability of club football.

In an interview with FC Business magazine, Smith said: "I have been talking internally about what happens in Ireland where clubs can only spend 65 per cent of their income on wages.

"If we carry on like we are now, I'll be pushing for this and additional reforms in relation to the license to play in our leagues.

"How can the SFA sit back and watch clubs destroy themselves? And there's a few close to doing that.

"Michel Platini has it right on one level that spending through debt is a form of cheating.

"But for us here in Scotland it's about ensuring that we retain the clubs we have and they have more money to help build the game as a whole.

"Our review on youth development would be pretty useless if there are less professional or league clubs for young Scottish players to play in, wouldn't it?"

Finance in Scottish football was complicated by Setanta's UK operation going out of business this summer and SPL clubs being forced to accept a vastly-reduced broadcast deal with Sky and ESPN.

Smith added: "It's not a good idea to be reliant on the TV money, clubs have to be more prudent."|||Another selltic minded clown...Gordon Smith|||65% is way too high (see my answer to your other wage cap question, 35K I would say for the old firm I would say).

Not only do I think this is feesible I think it should be introduced across europe and at a lower percentage. You could maybe push it as high as 50% of turnover but that is pushing it.|||pfft is my word of the week...

and yes cap their wages..and cut down on ticket prices|||Yes? Lol, dont really know how to answer

hail hail
