Driving with low oil?

I got my oil changed 3 weeks ago at a Monroe Muffler and Brake shop. I was thinking the oil level should be good for a month or more. I have a 1995 Chevy Lumina. It may use a quart of oil every month or 1,000 miles. I looked at the dipstick and I couldn't even get a reading on it. I stopped at another auto shop and they felt that it has to be at least 2 or more quarts low and that the car is starving for oil. I got my oil filled there. I don't know if I did any damage to the engine with it being that low on oil or not. When my car is driving the engine sounds fine but it don't sound as good when I stop to idle the engine and I never noticed the sound before. I suspect Monroe Muffler didn't fill the oil to the proper level and I don't know if they could be liable for anything if I have and damage from this low oil. Does it sound like I damaged my engine at all or not?|||i wouldnt take a bicycle to those people. you might have caught it before any damage to the engine. if its not knocking, then its probably safe to say it will be ok.|||It doesn't seems to me that you have damaged your engine, otherwise you would have felt low acceleration or engine overheat.

So, don't feel worry but always check the dipstick with the worker during the oil charge change.

Regards|||hard to prove anything...im amazed at the number of cars that pull into my friends repair shop whith a funny clicking in engine...he pulls dipstick...nothing...puts 2/3 qt and off they go...any damage is usually just extra wear.....drive on and keep an eye on it.|||Sounds like you better get some oil into the freakin' thing.
