Transmission fluid change?

I recently had a head gasket problem fixed. I find that the engine still is very loud I am wondering if the transmission fluid was changed, and if not would that cause the engine to be loud. I checked the level on the dip stick and it is fine and looks clear. Question my repair man is not in all week-so if I went to a Monroe Muffler for example and had it changed. would it cause a problem if my repair man had already done so. So 2 questions would the engine be loud after head gasket job? also would it hurt in any way if the transmission fluid is changed twice in 1 month? Thanks BTW I HAVE 63,000 MILES ON MY 1998 SATURN.|||Well, you got to tackle the problem step by step. First you have to check where the noise is coming from, in my experience usually a loud car has a exhaust pipe hole from rust, a air leak in the connection between the catalytic converter and the exhaust pipe, a muffler problem, or just an air leak or hole in general somewhere in the piping after the header coming down from the engine. You should isolate where the sound is coming from (engine or in the piping afterwards) -- with this in mind, yes, your car may be loud after a head gasket change.

Secondly, changing your transmission fluid twice in a month isn't necessarily bad, but it's just not necessary. It is recommended to change once every 60k miles or so (I guess moreso depends on the vehicle) ... I doubt changing this will help your noise problem. You do change your oil every 3 months or so, right? This might be the dipstick you're trying to check and confusing it for the transmission fluid - the oil dipstick is usually on the front of the engine, whereas the transmission fluid dipstick is on the sides/back. It's good to stay consistent with oil changes to prevent that "knocking" noise coming from your pistons rubbing on your engine.|||You need to specify the type of noise. If its tapping then its associated with the valve lifters/tappets which would have been interupted during a gasket change. Such a job would have required alot of dimantaling, and anything could have been misplaced or damaged.

Transmission fluid need not be changed except in the event of major engine repair. Otherwise it should last for the whole of the car's life.|||I'm not sure what you mean by "loud". It's possible the exhaust manifold didn't get sealed properly and is leaking. If you have a regular mechanic, it wont hurt to wait till he gets back and have him check it out.|||no the transmission has nothing to do with loud motor. if the fluid is pink and clear, its fine leave it for your regular mechanic have a muffler shop inspect your exhaust system something may need some work, get it done sooner, because the car will run better with a good exhaust system good luck.|||Changing trans fluid twice in one month will not hurt your car in anyway. The head on your car has three different gaskets called head gasket, intake gasket, and the manifold gasket. When u repair one of these gaskets the others could get messed up. If the manifold gasket got messed up your car would sound louder. If you open your hood you will hear excactly where the noise is coming from.
