Front brake pads and rotor replacement price?

What is a typical price for replacement of both front brake pads and rotors on a 1997 Nissan Altima GXE? Monroe Muffler and Brake is trying to charge me $449, then they offered me a coupon which brought it to $375. And I said no, because I could get the parts for much cheaper, so now they are saying $250. What is really a good, and fair price for this job (including labor).|||Whoa, a shop changing prices three times is dangerous, this is a shoddy practice, they may damage CV boots, hoses or who knows what when they are servicing the car. Parts are around $90 (low end) rotors / pads labor should run another $90 Parts markup varies but 225 -250 sounds about right for a retail repair. Frankly if you bring in your own parts the warranty issues are on you, pads wear out in three months (oh yeah raymold, valuecraft etc pads can wear that fast) its all on you. I would reccomend Performance Friction Carbon Metallic, Bendix, Wagner, Duralast gold over generic el cheapo brands, but its your car, same holds true for rotors, Chinese, and Mexico cast rotors are not nearly as good as USA , Japan, Germany, Korean made rotors, I've seen Chinese rotors warp in weeks.

Now if they were going to use OEM rotors and Pads the repair will run more, the difference in parts quality will be noticed in a few months.|||I would say the $250 parts and labor is a keeper... They got to make a profit to stay in business, sometimes cheaper means lower quality parts... (beware)

Good Luck,|||$250.00 is OK but why deal with someone that drops their price 50% and is surely still making a profit. Never take your cars to a Midas, Monroe or any "undercar" shop because you will be "upsold" to death or until you're broke at which point your warranty will mysteriously be voided for unexplained transgression.

Find a reputable independent ( not Goodyears, Tires and more etc) like Joe Schmo's auto and get everything done in 1 place. Trust me you'll save money in the long run and get far better quality.|||The going price for pad replacement and rotor refinishing is under $200. The usual brake chain scam is to sell you calipers that you usually don't need. If they tell you to replace calipers, ask them WHY? If they say that they're binding, tell them to lubricate the slide pins. That should be part of any brake job.

Next time, stay away from the brake chains. They're a rip off.

I'm a retired ASE Master/L-1 Technician. I still keep current with the latest automotive technology. Visit my blog for cool articles and TSB's: http://free-auto-repair-advice.blogspot.鈥?/a>|||Learn to change your own brake pads. First how old is your car? Chances are it won't need to have the rotors refinished. Per axle it usually costs 70 to 90 bucks to have someone do your brakes, without rotors. To do it yourself it will cost 20 bucks and about 10-20 mintutes of your time. It will be longer for the first time. So its worth it for me because I know how to change my brakes and I can do it efficiently. Get more than one opinion for the rotors, those guys will rip you off leave them... Walmart... actually is pretty good with prices, I would go there too.|||250 is a great price for both front brake pads and rotors. I have a different model of car, (honda accord) but I paid 350 when I had mine replaced a couple of months ago. The rotors are the most expensive parts I think.
